activities

i.c.a.p. cultivates artistic practices and opportunities in which to share, listen and learn collectively and collaboratively.

Our fields of action take the shape of competency + knowledge, creative consultancy, international networking, inclusive performing arts criticism + audience engagement and cultural mediation + translation.

All activities have the intention of creating bridges and engagement between locally based artists, presenting institutions, audiences and our international partners.

  1. competency + knowledge

i.c.a.p. actively engages with the emerging discussions around creative production, their politics, methods, tools and thoughts by implementing seminars + workshops and by commissioning publications + reviews.

  • We aim to specifically focus on exploring knowledge that challenges the current structures within the performing arts sector in favor of more sustainable and inclusive practices for artists, cultural workers and the general public.

With our international focus on competency, we promote and curate diverse critical thought that is mindful of cultural background, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation and age.

2. creative consultancy (CP & Dramaturgy)

With a growing collaborative network of producers and practitioners, i.c.a.p. supports art production with creative consultancy throughout all phases of production including dramaturgy, audience engagement, communication strategies, and international considerations.

3. international networking

Aware of the rising need for sustainable international structures of cultural exchange, i.c.a.p. supports artists, institutions and festivals in fostering connection and community.

  • This area of focus includes the hosting of international guests at festivals, support of international dissemination of artistic work, long-term strategic planning, and logistical event planning and production.

Opportunities created between the local art scene and its international network are all based on a foundation of collective work, practices of care and mutual support.

4. inclusive performing arts criticism (IPAC) + audience engagement

With Inclusive Performing Arts Criticism (IPAC) we wish to facilitate and encourage free meeting and sharing practices that emphasize participation and conversation by creating an audience-centered temporary public space.
IPAC sessions can be facilitated during festivals, in parallel to collectively attended performances/events or as reproducible audience inclusivity initiatives.

  • Through a relaxed, intimate and contextualized outlook inclusive to diverse perspectives, artistic languages and our current global socio-political issues, IPAC acknowledges the value of different awarenesses and thoughts that we all bring to the table.

In collaboration with our partners, we also aim to increase both audience engagement and outreach by encouraging a non-hierarchical, horizontal and inclusive exchange of ideas and opinions. One aspect of this is the investigation of different formats of operation that allows for improved and expanded access for individuals who, either for lack of funds, interest or other barriers, do not make up the usual theatregoers’ demographic.

5. cultural mediation + translation

Mindful to the different political and cultural frameworks underpinning each performative act, we believe that translation is a powerful tool to cultivate a deeper understanding of other ways of thinking.
This includes exploring and implementing inclusive and accessible artistic practices.

  • As an international team of working interpreters/translators (for both American Sign Language and spoken languages), we bring knowledge about disability, access, and the impact of cultural + linguistic nuisance. Understanding how these differences can both create barriers and opportunities, we offer guidance and resources to our collaborators, partners, artists and audiences during festivals, for international touring, and throughout the creative process as a whole.

Mindful of our own limited experiences, when the scope of work is beyond our capacities of knowledge, we engage with our network of colleagues and peers in order to best serve the work at hand.
